The Sydell Group proudly unveils its latest masterpiece, elNico, a lively rooftop bar and restaurant atop the charming Penny Williamsburg hotel. As the youngest sibling in the Sydell portfolio, Penny boasts colorful interiors and a remarkable art collection by local neurodivergent artists. Like its namesake, a spirited chihuahua, Penny, and elNico may be small but make up for it with a big heart and an abundance of character. Drawing inspiration from the Greek and Italian roots meaning "victory for the people," elNico embraces its multi-cultural heritage, reflecting it through a dynamic mix of culinary leaders and emerging talents.

The talented emerging chef, Fernanda Serrano, is at the helm of elNico's culinary team. With a wealth of experience from notable establishments like The NoMad London, Cosme in New York, Pujol in Mexico City, and acclaimed three-Michelin-starred restaurants in Spain, Switzerland, and Italy, Serrano brings her Mexican heritage and worldly influences to the forefront. Her menu is an exquisite journey through her life, showcasing casual yet elegant and colorful dishes that intertwine her roots with the Latin diaspora and her international culinary adventures.

The menu at elNico is designed for sharing and savoring the diverse flavors of Mexican cuisine. Inspired by urban farms and producers in the tri-state area, Chef Fernanda Serrano's creations include tantalizing dishes such as the Caviar Sope, the vegan Pink Mole, the Tlayuda, the Green Sikil, and the Tamal. The Pulpo Pibil, featuring fried octopus with toum and tortillas, and the Carne Asada with skirt steak, shishito, and chimichurri, are must-try highlights for communal enjoyment. Desserts at elNico keep things light and refreshing, with options like the Sando 43 and Fresas con Crema offering a delightful conclusion to a remarkable meal.

Beverage director Leo Robitschek, a James Beard Award-winning author renowned for his work at The NoMad and Eleven Madison Park, has masterfully curated elNico's diverse beverage program. Joining forces with bar director Cristhian Rodriguez, a fellow immigrant with Peruvian roots, Robitschek has crafted a vibrant, fun, and delicious drink menu influenced by Latin America and Mexico. The bar caters to all palates, from seasonal interpretations of classic cocktails to inventive non-alcoholic options. An extensive selection of Agave spirits and a focus on local sourcing add to the bar's allure, creating a delightful atmosphere for libation enthusiasts.
